A thoughtful approach to K-8 placement

For students entering Kindergarten through 8th grade, Family of Christ uses a developmental placement philosophy. That means we look carefully at a child’s overall readiness and growth so we can help place them in an environment where they can succeed, grow with confidence, and thrive.

What is developmental placement?

Developmental placement means we consider more than a child’s chronological age. We also look at physical, social, emotional, neurological, and intellectual development to better understand school readiness and the environment in which a child is most likely to succeed.

A successful school experience depends on more than academic exposure alone. Children flourish when they are placed in a setting that matches their readiness for the structure, expectations, and learning demands of school.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade students must meet Florida age requirements by September 1 for placement. In addition, Family of Christ uses screening and placement review to help determine the best fit for each student.

Our goal is to give every child the strongest possible start. We want students to be successful, happy, and able to grow into the whole person God created them to be.
