Student Life

A school experience shaped by faith, friendship, leadership, and community

Student life at Family of Christ is about more than what happens in the classroom. We want students to grow in faith, build meaningful friendships, develop confidence, serve others, and be part of a school community that feels joyful, connected, and deeply rooted in Christ.

What student life looks like at Family of Christ

Faith in daily life

Student life is shaped by weekly chapel, biblical teaching, prayer, and a school culture that encourages students to live out their faith with integrity and care for others.

A connected community

We want students to feel known, included, and part of something meaningful. School life includes shared traditions, school-wide events, and opportunities to grow together.

Room to grow

Students have opportunities to lead, serve, participate, and discover their gifts through activities that strengthen both character and community.

Worship

Weekly Chapel

Each week, our students gather for chapel to worship through music, prayer, and a devotion from God’s Word. Chapel gives students a regular rhythm of worship during the school week and helps reinforce a posture of reverence, joy, and generosity. Students also have the opportunity to give an offering that supports a mission or need in our community, across the country, or around the world.

Character

Student of the Month

Our Student of the Month recognition reflects the kind of student culture we want to build. We celebrate students who live out the values of Christ Alone, Better Together, Uniquely Crafted, and Tangible Faith. These themes help reinforce that identity is rooted in Jesus, community matters, every child is gifted by God, and faith should be visible in the way we live. Learn more about what each of those mean below.

CHRIST ALONE

It’s all about Jesus. It’s only about Jesus. It’s always about Jesus. We want our kids to know that their identity is anchored in Him… not in performance or popularity. A child who lives this out might pray when anxious, speak openly about their faith, or show a faith-filled peace in the middle of challenges. We see families living this value when they gather around the Word at home or make worship a regular rhythm in their lives. When Christ is the center, everything else finds its place. And when we are in alignment with Him, we are right where we are designed to be!

From that identity flows connection. We’re made for community, and we’re stronger when we walk together in better, healthier relationships. At school, this looks like encouraging a classmate, forgiving quickly, including the left-out, sharing the burden, and serving others with joy. At home, it means shared meals without distractions, Sunday worship as a family, family faith talks, and daily moments of grace and forgiveness. Together, we grow as the Church to care for and serve one another.

As students grow in Christ and community, they begin to discover the unique way God has gifted them. Whether it’s singing in chapel, solving problems in class, helping someone on the playground, or quietly encouraging a friend—every child has a role in God’s story. Families support this by noticing those gifts, cheering them on, and finding places to use them to serve others. We want to see children and families take great joy in knowing and living out how God has wired them to love the world around them by pointing to Jesus.

All of this leads somewhere. We see this leading to a faith that shows up in action, specifically with people who don’t know or believe in Jesus. We want our kids to live their faith in visible, meaningful ways: helping a friend, showing integrity, praying for someone in need. And in our homes, we model this by serving together, meeting real needs, and being present in the lives of others. This is where faith becomes not just something we believe, but something we live.

Community

Night of Knights

Night of Knights is one of our signature school and church community celebrations. It is a meaningful event that brings people together to celebrate and support the ministry of Family of Christ while looking ahead with gratitude and hope.

Leadership & Service

National Junior Honor Society

Our National Junior Honor Society gives qualifying students an opportunity to be recognized for scholarship, service, citizenship, character, and leadership. Invited 7th and 8th grade students may apply for membership, and the organization places a strong emphasis on service to others through projects that support the school and student body. The current criteria list a 3.5 cumulative GPA as part of eligibility.

Family Partnership

Parent Teacher League

Our PTL helps strengthen the connection between home, church, and school. Through event planning, volunteer support, and family involvement, PTL plays an important role in enriching students’ academic, social, and spiritual experience. It is one of the ways our broader school community comes together to support students well.

Each family is required to pay annual PTL dues of $50.00 and to participate in helping our school. This is expected in the form of volunteer hours. Each volunteer will be responsible for logging in his or her own hours so that PTL may maintain an accurate record. Donated items cannot be substituted for volunteer hours.

Parent-Teacher League Volunteer Hours

Every family attending Family of Christ Christian School is required to perform 20 hours of volunteer work annually or pay $12.50 per volunteer hour for hours not met. The PTL will send every family a semi-annual statement.

All volunteer hours are to be recorded online at SignUp Genius.com.  Acceptable volunteer opportunities include:

  • Open House
  • Classroom Volunteers
  • Night of Knights
  • Bonfire
  • Walk-a-Thon
  • Book Fairs
  • Field Day
  • Christmas/Spring Performances
  • PTL Meetings

Volunteering is very important. Here are just a few reasons why:

  • Volunteering sets a good example for our children
  • Volunteering helps keep Family of Christ Christian School an excellent learning environment for our children
  • Volunteering helps parents and students develop pride and respect for Family of Christ Christian School

Student Leadership

Student Council

Student Council represents grades K–8, with elected officers in middle school and classroom representatives in grades 3–5. The group meets regularly with a faculty advisor to help plan activities and service projects for the school, church, and surrounding community.

Character growth

Students are recognized and encouraged for the values we want to see take root in their lives.

Leadership development

Students have real opportunities to serve, represent others, and contribute to the school community.

Belonging
