K-5 Elementary Academics
Our elementary program helps students build strong academic skills while growing in confidence, character, and Christ-centered understanding. From Kindergarten through 5th grade, we combine purposeful instruction, biblical truth, and age-appropriate growth so students are prepared for what comes next. Weekly chapel, scripture memorization, core academics, enrichment classes, and annual Stanford Achievement testing are all part of that experience.
Elementary school is a time to build foundations that last. In these years, students grow in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and faith while learning how to think clearly, work steadily, and love learning.
Faith is not treated like a separate subject alone. It is woven through the school day through Bible curriculum, weekly chapel, scripture memorization, and daily reminders of our role as disciples of Christ.
Students build core skills through structured instruction in language arts, reading, math, science, and social studies, with expectations that grow as students mature from Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Elementary students also participate in Spanish, art, physical education, computer, and music, helping them grow creatively, physically, and confidently alongside their academic development.
Our elementary classrooms are shaped by a Christ-centered approach to learning. Students grow through Bible instruction, weekly chapel, scripture memorization, and daily study of God’s Word. As they move through the grades, they also learn Lutheran doctrine, the events of the church year, and how faith connects to everyday life and learning.
Elementary students use Bible-based resources such as Concordia Enduring Faith, Adventure Bible, Faith Alive Bible, and Superbook Academy as part of their grade-level experience.
Students participate in weekly chapel and scripture memorization, building habits of faith and biblical literacy throughout the elementary years.
We want students to see that faith shapes the whole of life. In elementary school, that means making connections between biblical truth, character, and the way students learn and live each day.
Our elementary curriculum is designed to help students grow steadily in both skill and confidence. Each year builds on the last, with strong support in the foundational subjects families care about most.
Students build reading, writing, phonics, spelling, vocabulary, grammar, handwriting, and comprehension skills across the elementary years. Our curriculum includes tools such as Wonders Reading & Writing Workshop, McGraw-Hill Wonders 2023, Learning Without Tears, Sadlier Phonics, and vocabulary instruction that grows more advanced in upper elementary. Students also engage in Accelerated Reader, journal writing, compositions, novel studies, essays, letters, poetry, editing, and book reports as they progress.
Elementary math begins with number sense, counting, shapes, patterns, time, money, and operations, then grows into multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, measurement, probability, graphing, and early algebra concepts. Our curriculum includes ABeka Mathematics, Sunshine Math, Spectrum Math, and Sadlier Progress in Mathematics, depending on grade level.
Students explore life science, physical science, and earth science through hands-on learning and age-appropriate investigation. Topics across K-5 include living things, ecosystems, matter, energy, motion, weather, astronomy, the human body, ecology, and engineering concepts. Grade-level resources include Abeka, Science Weekly, McGraw-Hill Science, and Generation Genius.
Elementary students study community, citizenship, maps, geography, history, government, economics, Florida studies, American symbols, states and capitals, and the growth of the nation. As students move into upper elementary, they also take part in Florida history learning and economics experiences like Biz Town.
In Kindergarten, students build early foundations in reading behaviors, phonics, handwriting, number sense, place value, shapes, time, science observation, and community awareness. This is a year focused on readiness, curiosity, routine, and joyful introduction to structured learning.
In 1st and 2nd grade, students strengthen reading fluency, comprehension, writing, grammar, spelling, place value, addition, subtraction, problem-solving, science concepts, and civics. Students also begin handling more independence in academic work while continuing to develop confidence as readers and learners.
In upper elementary, students deepen academic skills through multiplication and division fluency, fractions and decimals, essay writing, novel studies, science investigation, Florida and U.S. history, geography, and more advanced critical thinking. These years help prepare students for the expectations of middle school.
Elementary students do more than rotate through core academic blocks. Our program also includes specials and enrichment tools that help students grow in creativity, movement, fluency, and engagement.
We administer the Stanford Achievement Test annually for grades K-8.
Each year builds on the one before it, helping students move from foundational skills toward greater independence, comprehension, and academic confidence.
Students are consistently developing in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and faith through regular instruction and practice.
We want families to know that elementary growth is both nurtured and measured. Teachers build skills steadily in the classroom, and we also use annual assessments to help track student progress over time.
Elementary school includes meaningful moments beyond the textbook. Across K-5, students take part in field trips, service opportunities, celebrations, and school traditions that strengthen both learning and community.
Depending on grade level, students may take part in experiences such as the pumpkin patch, MOSI, Cracker Country, aquarium trips, Kennedy Space Center, St. Augustine, Florida History Museum, Biz Town, and other grade-level learning experiences.
Elementary students participate in traditions and service-centered activities such as Operation Christmas Child, National Day of Prayer, and National Lutheran School Week.
Parents and students also enjoy events like Night of Knights, Walk-A-Thon, winter and spring programs, Red Ribbon Week, bonfires, and other memorable elementary experiences.
The best way to understand our elementary program is to visit campus, meet our teachers, and see how faith, structure, and joyful learning come together in the classroom.
